At this year’s Golden Globes, Satchel and Jackson Lee, children of Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Lee, are acting as Golden Globes ambassadors. Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Sunday’s show aired live on NBC from Los Angeles and New York.
Satchel, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the children of the “Da 5 Bloods” director and his wife, producer Tonya Lewis Lee, who married in 1993. They are the first siblings of color to be named Globes ambassadors. Jackson is the first Black male ambassador.

An ambassador is traditionally the child of a celebrity who assists with award presentations, handing out trophies to winners and escorting them off stage, although their duties are adjusted this year as nominees accept awards remotely from their homes.
Ambassadors also work to raise awareness around a philanthropic cause. Satchel is partnering with Callen-Lorde, an organization that helps with LGBTQIA+ communities in New York City, while Jackson is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the volunteer-supported mentoring network.
“We’re proud to carry our father’s legacy of storytelling to bring attention to communities close to our hearts,” Satchel said in a statement.
Added Jackson: “As a visionary creative, my dad taught Satchel and me the importance of entertainment as a cultural catalyst of change.”
Previous ambassadors include Pierce Brosnan’s sons Dylan and Paris Brosnan, Idris Elba’s daughter Isan Elba, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s daughter Simone Garcia.
Awards season kicked off Monday with the Gotham Awards, where “Nomadland” took home best feature in a hybrid virtual ceremony with no audience but live presenters at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street.
