What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD is a mental disorder that affects the behavior and brain. There is not any effective cure for ADHD, but different options can help to manage this situation.

In many cases, some drugs can also be an effective treatment for ADHD.

Medications

CNS (Central nervous stimulants)

CNS is the most commonly prescribed drug for ADHD. These drugs increase brain chemicals and help to improve concentration and focus.

Non-stimulant medications

Doctors suggest non-stimulant drugs when stimulants medication creates side effects that hard to handle for your child.

Side effects of non-stimulant and stimulant medications

The side effects of both medications are similar but stimulants have stronger than non-stimulants.

Side effects such as:

  • Trouble sleeping
  • Nervousness
  • Stomach upset
  • Irritability
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight loss
  • Headache

What is epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes unprovoked seizures. A seizure is like a sudden electric shock in the brain.

Types of seizures

Generalized seizures – It affects the whole brain.

Partial or Focal seizures – It affects only one part of the brain.

Stronger seizures are last long into several minutes to few seconds and they can cause uncontrollable muscle jerks. During strong seizures, some people lose consciousness or confused. After that, they don’t have any memory of what it happening.

Due to the following reasons, you can face seizures:

  • Head trauma
  • Very low blood sugar
  • High fever

Although epilepsy and ADHD both are neurological disorders ADHD occurs only in children and on the other hand epilepsy can occur in children as well as adults.

There is no proper cure for epilepsy but medications and other strategies can help to control Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and epilepsy.
