Dialysis is a medical procedure or treatment which purifies and filters the blood with the help of a machine.

Types of dialysis

 

Hemodialysis

In this process, the artificial kidney is used to clean extra fluid and waste from the blood. During this process, blood will be removed from the body and filtered by an artificial kidney. The filtered blood then returns to the body by the dialysis machine.

Peritoneal dialysis

In this process blood clean inside your body. The doctor will perform a surgery in which a tube called a catheter inserted into your abdomen. Throughout the process, your abdomen fills with dial-sate by the catheter. Extra waste and fluids from the blood will draw out with this treatment.

Risk Factors

Yes, dialysis has some risk factors:

  • Low blood pressure
  • Anemia
  • Itching
  • Difficulty in sleeping
  • Sudden cardiac death
  • Abdomen muscle weakening
  • Fever
  • Hernia
  • Stomach pain

Other treatments

Although dialysis is a bit expensive procedure not everyone can go through it. There are some other treatments that can help to protect you from dialysis.

One of the choices is anemia management. Another one is to maintain your blood pressure, drink more fluids, and keep yourself away from dehydration. Consult with your doctor before taking any inflammatory medication. Get away from smoking, alcohol, and depression.

A kidney transplant is also a great option and also a long-term commitment. For this, you should talk to your doctor if the transplant is good for you.
