Daljeet strongly backs Motera curator; expects a similar rank turner in 4rth Test

India vs England 4rth Test: Former BCCI pitch committee chairman Daljeet Singh has come to the rescue of Motera pitch curator and defended the current regimen for offering rank turner for the 3rd Test that ended in one and half days, saying the 4rth Test will see a similar turning pitch and batsmen’s skills are tested best on a rank turner.

“I don’t understand what’s the hue and cry all about? There was no demon in the pitch and there is no shame in offering rank-turners. If the quality of a batsman is gauged by his ability to play on a fast track, his skills are tested on rank turners. Why cry foul if you cant play on a tough wicket? The 3rd test match did not end in 2 days because of the pitch but due to the English batsmen’s inability to play on a turning wicket. It’s the skill level or the lack of it that was key to the fall of 30 wickets in five-session,” Daljeet told Inside Sport on Tuesday.

“I am strongly backing the curator and the pitch committee. They have done a good job to ensure home advantage. Every country does the same. Would you expect England, Australia or South Africa to offer a spinning track? I think its quite acceptable,” the veteran super curator observed.

India’s vicory in the 3rd test match against England in less than five sessions probably drew less applause and more brickbats with criticism ranging from “not a good advertisement for Test Cricket” to ” an ugly win on a bizarre wicket”.

Former India player Maninder Singh, a specialist left-arm orthodox tweaker who spun a web around the likes of West Indian legends in the 80s, is of the opinion that curators and Indian think tank need not underestimate Indian bowlers and opt for an overtly crazy and bizarre wicket to produce result in their favour.

India lead the series 2-1 against England and will head into the fourth Test match to be held in Ahmedabad from Thursday, March 4. India need a win or a draw to win the series and storm into the final of ICC Test Championship to be p[layed in Lord’s against New Zealand.
