IPL 2021 – Bangladesh Cricketers in IPL 2021: After Shakib Al Hassan now Mustafizur Rahman is all set to pull out of Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka. The episode has left Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) disappointed. The board has confirmed that Mustafizur picked by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2021 has contacted them and has asked for permissions.
“Mustafizur came today (Monday) and asked me whether he can take part in the IPL. I told him the decision is yours. I just have told him if he wants to go then he can go after giving us a letter,” confirmed BCB President Nazmul Hassan.

The country vs Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) debate is raging in Bangladesh cricket currently as BCB expressed disappointment over Shakib’s decision to play in the IPL at the expense of national duty. Bangladesh currently has two cricketers bought by IPL franchises. Shakib was bought at the IPL Auction by Kolkata Knight Riders for 3.2 Cr and Mustafizur by Rajasthan Royals for 1.1 Cr. Nazmul said he is very disappointed with Shakib’s attitude.
”No one is indispensable,” Nazmul told reporters on Monday
“It’s not that we are embarrassed, rather we are disappointed (as he agreed to play in the IPL instead of playing the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka). You all know we have invested a lot in the player for 10 to 15 years, and apart from the agreement, we spend a lot behind them when they are injured,” he said.
“We lost (the Test series) to Afghanistan, India and Pakistan and then we lost to West Indies at home. I thought everyone would be eager to play the series (against Sri Lanka) and at that point, if anyone says that they don’t want to play and choose to play somewhere else in a franchise league then I don’t have anything to say.
“When someone says I don’t want to play the next Test, and play in a franchise T20 league, it becomes very clear that we can’t do much with them. I didn’t like the timing of it. He was among the players I expected would take charge of the difficult situation. It was disappointing.”
Nazmul also declared that he has now asked pacer Mustafizur Rahman to make up his mind regarding his participation in the IPL.

Hassan said that players would now be allowed to play in franchise-based competitions but that once they signed the central contract, which is now split between red- and white-ball players, they would have to commit to playing for Bangladesh.
“We will enter into a new contact with the players (for 2021),” Hassan said. “It will be mentioned clearly who wants to play which format. They have to inform us. If they have any other engagement, they have to be clear about their availability. It is very open. Previously, it depended on individuals but now we are confirming it in writing, so that nobody can say that they haven’t been allowed or we kept them forcefully.”
BCB is looking to play the postponed tour of Sri Lanka in April after multiple efforts to conduct the series fell through in the pandemic-struck 2020 but with Shakib declining to play for the country and Mustafizur ready to take the same route – BCB has a lot of thinking to do.
