Ind vs Eng 3rd Test: Axar Patel completes maiden 10-wicket haul in only his second Test- With his fourth wicket in the second innings against England in the 3rd Test at the Motera Stadium, Axar Patel joined an elite club of cricketers to complete a 10-wicket haul in Test cricket.
Axar might be just two-match old in Test cricket but he has already completed his five-wicket haul on his debut in the 2nd Test against England in Chennai. Now with Joe Root’s wicket, the Gujarat lad has completed his 10 wicket haul, became one of the few Indian bowlers to achieve that feat. In the first innings 3rd Test, a pink-ball Day/Night affair, Patel scalped six wickets. Now, the left-arm spinner has 17 Test wickets in just two matches.
After India were bundled out for 145 with England skipper Joe Root returning with 5/8, it was Patel’s turn to use the skids and let the pitch do the work. The 27-year-old kept bowling at the same place as English batsmen left bamboozled.
In the very first ball of England’s second innings, Patel rocked opener Zak Crawley’s stumps. It could have been a hat-trick in the second ball but a DRS decision went against him. However, the third delivery of the over to Jonny Bairstow did the job as the English batsman completely misjudged the line of the ball and was clean bowled.
In the ninth over, it was Dom Sibley’s turn as he nicked a Patel delivery to wicketkeeper Rishav Pant. But with Root getting trapped leg before, Patel completed his 10-wicket haul for the first time in Test cricket. His career-best in first-class cricket was 10/125.
